commissioner Ray is it helpful for other special areas and looking at students that are in need of additional testing services and again it also helps teachers plan for instructions so that's kind of old so why do you continue to use a WPA would you find it through Indiana formative assessment Grant so that his money that Indiana gives us for the testing licenses for kindergarten through 5th grade that shows how much they actually students will exceed their growth projections and students might not meet the girls perception so you have two very simple bar graph here showing across the district percentage of students that met their growth projection growth projections are high very high standards are far different level of difficulty I used to be but I will tell you that it's been a very tender affirming to see the girls in particular for grade one little bit over 60% of students in first grade math or spring map in 2017 was less than 40% and we saw it last year and of instructional coaches and some of the principles and I had a conversation because we thought it okay we thought this second grade is Wednesday to drop off and turn the truck really is first grade so what can we do in first grade, so we decided to bring in some extra support around first grade for math this year if it will continue for next year but I just want example of a decision that we make things fun yay that already paid off some dividends by the end of the year SolarMovie expect to bring in additional help for 2nd 4th grade now tragically used in first grade at the program called number corner and we really liked it it's a very research-based program we friends piloting it at the end of the year in second grade the second grade teachers liked it so much that we purchased it all the second grade teachers to begin using in the fall for math I will also be piloting the grades 3 4 and 5 to any children so I got one piece that we know we see the growth here we know that its research babe you know that feels exception using it if it's that easy to implement but it's challenging rigorous for students in for teachers so that would be one piece that we would corn for 2nd grade what's the expectation for percentages okay we got less than half beating it in three of the five grades and we got to the verb of 60% is that good and I don't even is it a bit cagey about growth projections because your girl protection kill might mean that you are far above grade level or below ground level it just depends on where the student Begins the year at and so NWA also put students fat percentages low low low average average high average and high so that can give teachers more information about where the students are at the end of the year in terms of just overall how many students Pro projection there isn't one expectation there because some growth projections are you know it could be 15 points for one student they could be one point way so even if for example if it's shoot what is in the 89 percentile at the beginning of the year and they were projection to grow 8.4 of the Year even if it was 7 they wouldn't have met that growth projection so we can be such a small little margin there and that is when teachers would need to look at the reports make sure they have the full picture of the students this is just one piece that kind of gives you a bird's-eye view of been teaching at a Suncrest first grade class for a number of weeks maternity leave so she could slide in and have been working with this group refers cuz it was something without to be very valuable a first grader who was talking about going to your mom's house but you could tell every student was right and had that same as well just took those done ready to go the kids are taking it to a much higher level with this program and then I got to see the end update results that first grade class that works toothbrush song and just tell me your tell you one more thing about that and WB also gives you for each of those galerius over for math is computational geometry number 10 things like that for the first time nwea first grade geometry was listed as a relative strength so that was a big deal and not all the rooms in the corporation when using a require all year for the fact that it pay of course that's what that really boosted scores but we saw that there are some direct correlation there and some of those specific areas of her points any questions I just want so since right now and we all know it's going away and most of us are probably happy next episode but we've all been good might be similar on NWA as they would be on my side does that make sense if they perform very well and nwea same thing for the Lord play I think it's more miserable but NWA is adaptive students have more time with it and it will go up in level of complexity even to standards that are far above the grade level it's not really accurate measure just of what she means knowing that grade is Howard that stupid what that stupid nose in general does it take the teacher can really differentiate I said really just tells you what is student that grade level standards so as an educator and it's apparent I think nwea is a far more specific usable tool for student achievement than I thought did that make sense in terms of the new assessment so that this will be my alarm and this will be great 3 through 8 in 2019 we do you know we're kind of getting information from the state of they are still developing the test for using an independent testing company called are American but nothing but I think one of the biggest differences is that it's going to be a adaptive it's going to test skills that we had not have the capacity to test before so for example we have a lot of speaking and listening standards but they've never been in touch all my stuff will be assessed on our way and will be assessed in terms of how well they can respond to a text I was happy about that because we do so much in our classrooms around talk for I'm listening around speaking conversation so I think it's that this test is going to try to be much more offense and I also like the fact is it on time to not unlimited time so we can't for the testing session for 2 weeks or anything but we don't all work the same under duress of time so I think all of those little to be said for a really good also the asking for is the approval to hire to preschool teachers into preschool bilingual professionals one classroom will be at Blue Ridge one classroom will be in sundress and their salaries benefits I will state realized that the counties that didn't have this probably we're never going to get there without some help to this year they offered a capacity-building grant and that's what this is a capacity building grant for account so there were nine counties in Indiana without a level we are one of them all the counties around twice a week my wife a hole in the donut so we felt like when this application came up they were begging for us to apply to Noah because they want these nine counties to have us so so we wrote a we wrote The Grand and what what ended up happening is Philippe about who he invited all the all the schools corporations in the county they invited the learning ladder at the YMCA we invited watts of individual provider that would provide child care Pre-K providers in Frankfurt came in but didn't stay involved so this grant was written for the community schools of Frankfort and the ladder July and May so we were really excited about that that we would have these three completely different entities giving parents choices he's not all parents are ready for their 4 year old to go up to the school to Frankfort so they might be you are uncomfortable sending their child she would a home provider so we thought that was his strength of our application plus we called our building a Workforce through Early Learning because we development tool so that was our promise so as Don said it was a friend for a Ford and a $202,000 44000 pack what's 45000 of that is for equipment for those you to new classroom the rest is for your teachers in the systems and their about the Grant and she wasn't able to cash she was just so excited about the opportunity for kids in and knowing if I would be an information that they can to gain from that and then spent the kids.
